Listen to Obituary

Tracie Lynn Cyr was born on June 16, 1957, in Bellingham, Washington. She grew up in a close-knit family, surrounded by the warmth and support that would shape her resilient spirit for years to come. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Norah Smith, her parents Leroy and Norah Cyr, and her cherished niece Christina Cyr. She is survived by her brother Phil Cyr; sisters Penny (Russ) and Wendee (John); brother-in-law Gary Smith; as well as her many nieces and nephews. Tracie’s family also includes those she held dear beyond ties of blood - the Durfee Family, who provided her with love, laughter, and unwavering companionship throughout the later years.

Education and Perseverance

Tracie graduated from Sehome High School in 1975. During her junior year in January 1974, she sustained a life-altering gymnastics injury. Despite this profound challenge, Tracie showed tenacity, demonstrated remarkable courage and independence in every aspect of her life as a quadriplegic. She attended college at Western Washington University and soon began her career as an accountant at Allsop, Inc. Tracie dedicated 45 years to Allsop, taking immense pride in her work and treasuring the camaraderie of the Allsop family. Her steadfast commitment and professional excellence left a lasting legacy within the company.

A Life Full of Joy and Community

Despite the challenges she faced, Tracie lived her life to the fullest. Independent and stubborn, she was a true warrior until the end, always striving to make the most of every moment, even as she navigated the necessity of depending on others.

In her final decade, Tracie found great joy in the company of Leanne Durfee and family. Josh and Jake grew up with Tracie as an auntie and second mom, roles that she cherished deeply. She was a constant fan at Squalicum High School on the soccer field and tennis court, cheering on her boys and all their friends. Tracie and Leanne hosted Bellingham Bells players and were dedicated fans. Her bond with the Durfee family was a testament to the power of chosen relationships and the immense love she gave and received.

Tracie delighted in Bunco nights, offering endless commentary during Bachelor evenings with the girls, and traveling whenever possible. A passionate baseball enthusiast, she was a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners and the Bellingham Bells for nearly 20 years. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through in her dedication to support her friends, Jo and Leanne, in making their dream of The Hobby Hen House come to fruition.
