Listen to Obituary

Mittsie Ortiz passed away on March 8, 2026. She was born on March 30, 1945, in Oriente Province, Cuba.

In 1961, she moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York. There she met Guillermo Ortiz, and the two were married in 1964. The couple later moved to Los Angeles for Guillermo’s work as a piping designer in the oil and gas industry. During those years, Mittsie devoted herself to creating a loving home and raising their four children.

Around 1974, the family settled in Bellingham, Washington. Mittsie took great pride in caring for her home and family. She was a wonderful cook, loved flowers and gardening, and found joy in hosting family gatherings and holidays. She was a member of Nooksack Valley Baptist Church and was known for her generous heart. A devoted grandmother, she was always ready to help care for children and lovingly “mother” anyone who needed it. She also had a special place in her heart for dogs and cherished the many pets she cared for over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Ortiz; her parents; her brother, Rafael; and her sister, Janet.

She is survived by her children, Annette Rose (David), Karen Hobby, Jacob Ortiz, and Andrew Ortiz; three grandchildren, Janét (Kyle), Jordan, and Jayma; one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made in Mittsie’s name to Whatcom Hospice Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A visitation will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, March 13, at Westford Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm with a reception following.
