Michael “Mike” Callahan, age 80, passed away on October 6, 2026.
Mike spent his childhood in Auburn, Washington, then attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, where he earned a degree in accounting. He went on to become a general contractor, operating Callahan Construction in Bellingham beginning in the late 1970s. Over the years, Mike built many homes throughout the Bellingham area.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, running, and spending time outdoors. He was a big basketball fan, especially of Larry Bird, and followed politics closely. He also enjoyed watching wildlife, particularly the hummingbirds he faithfully fed each day.
He loved a good prank, especially when he could get one over on his kids or friends. He was always sharing funny emails and memes and enjoyed a good laugh. Mike had a great sense of humor.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Grace Callahan; and sisters, Faye Johnson and Kathleen “Taffy” Callahan.
He is survived by his sons, Braden (Jamie) Callahan and Scott (Dawn) Callahan; grandsons, Nolan and Mason; granddaughters, Cameron and Courtney; close friends, Laurie Callahan and Lee Breakey; and many other friends.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Mi Mexico’s banquet room (241 Telegraph Rd. Bellingham, WA 98226).
