Listen to Obituary

Born in Portsmouth, VA to parents Richard “Zac” and Krista (Nichols) Cain, Macallan passed away unexpectedly in Bellingham, WA on November 16, 2025. Mac was just 17 and a senior at Sehome High School.

Mac spent his first 13 years of life in Virginia Beach, VA where he excelled at a school for gifted learners, studied Spanish, and cultivated his love for music and dance. He learned to play the guitar at age 10 and taught himself the piano.

Mac moved to Bellingham, WA in 2021 where he quickly settled into the PNW, working on his skiing, enjoying hikes, and appreciating the stunning landscape.

Macallan enjoyed sports as well. In his younger years, he fenced and studied escrima (Filipino martial art). He took 2nd place in the cross country district finals in his 8th grade season, and went on to do three more seasons of track. He participated in swimming, football, and wrestling as well.

Mac made lifelong friends very quickly and was chosen as his 8th grade promotion ceremony class speaker. In May of 2022, Mac performed the National Anthem on his electric guitar in front of a packed house at Climate Pledge Arena for the WNBA Storm game.

Mac’s recent focus was on applying to colleges, spending quality time with his friends, and excitedly pursuing music production. His musical passion and talent were unrivaled, and he has left us with several original songs. Macallan loved writing, ceramics, yearbook, and even chemistry. He planned to major in Music and Marketing in college.

Mac’s light shined brightly at Sehome HS and beyond where he had no shortage of friends; they share that he always had an infectious smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He was always willing to help and support his fellow classmates. He was admired for his sense of style and confidence. He will be dearly missed.

Macallan is survived by his parents, Zac and Krista; his older brother, Jack; grandparents, Richard, Stacey, Rich, and Paula; and many family members, the closest being his aunts, uncles, and dear cousins. He also leaves behind countless friends and his beloved dogs, Woden and Teufel.

A memorial service to honor Macallan will be held in Bellingham in mid-December, details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Celiac Disease Foundation.
