Eva Lorraine Flanery Sattler (neé Kelly), age 87, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Bellingham, Washington. Born on January 28, 1938, in Lewistown, Montana, Eva lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and faith.
Eva was the cherished mother of Brian Flanery (Theresa), Doneva Froberg (Douglas), Melissa Flanery, and Rebecca Flanery (Darrin). She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Angela Flanery Flake. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lance Flake (Wendy), Janelle Stewart (Kevin), Jason Flake (Tina), Jaimie McCarty, Jessie Gutierrez (Francisco), Danielle Anderson (Joey), Sean Flanery, Andrea Ashmore (Jeff), Lesha Olsen (Peter), Brent Froberg (Jessica), Bryce Froberg (Chelsey), and Baylee Benson (Andreas).
Eva also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward her memory with love and pride. She is fondly remembered by her dear friends, Janet Slesk and Wendy Wynne, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives she touched deeply.
Eva was preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years, Robert Flanery, her second husband of 13 years, Roger Sattler, her daughter Angela, her niece Susan Thomason, her nephew Mark Thomason, her sisters Myrna Harold and Joyce Thomason, and her dear friend Linda Roberts. Each loss shaped her journey but never dimmed the light she brought to those around her.
A woman of many talents and passions, Eva was perpetually curious and committed to lifelong learning. She was a gifted seamstress, whose hands created beauty from fabric with grace and precision. Her kitchen was a place of warmth where extraordinary meals were prepared with love – each dish a testament to her culinary skill. Eva found joy in reading and gardening, nurturing both mind and earth with equal care. Music held a special place in her heart; she embraced melodies across generations and genres with an open spirit that reflected the breadth of her appreciation for life’s richness
Those who knew Eva will remember her for her quick wit, generous heart, unwavering faith in God, and the laughter she so easily shared. Her sense of humor brightened even the darkest days while her steadfast love for family and friends created bonds that endured across time and distance.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Whatcom Hospice Foundation in recognition of the compassionate care they provided.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM, concluding with a luncheon reception, all held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5800 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA. She will be laid to rest at a private family service at Greenacres Memorial Park. In honor of Eva’s vibrant spirit and favorite color, the family encourages attendees to wear pink to her service.
