Edmund Snow McCormack

Edmund, known by his siblings as “Ted,” passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, in Bellingham, Washington, at the age of 68.

He was born in Norwood, Massachusetts, on November 11, 1957, to Vinny and Cindy McCormack. He was the first of six children. His family moved to Cape Cod when he was about seven years old, where he grew up running cross-country and attending Harwich High School. As a child, he wanted to be a priest. He went on to earn a B.A. in English in 1987 from North Adams State College (now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts). He then earned his first master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University in 1990, followed by a second master’s degree in English from the University of South Dakota in 1993. While at LSU, he met his future wife, Barbara, and together they had one child, their son, Patrick.

Edmund was known for being generous, wise, witty, and a deep thinker who would happily discuss nearly any intellectual topic.

In his free time, he enjoyed reading a good book, discussing philosophy, poetry, and classic literature, camping, smoking his pipe or the occasional cigar, painting abstract works in acrylic, baking homemade bread, and spending quality time with those he cared about. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and was ecstatic when they won the World Series in 2004, breaking an 86-year championship drought.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent, and mother, Cynthia McCormack. He is survived by his son, Patrick; former wife, Barbara; sisters, Caroline, Marjorie, Joanne, and Mary; brother, Samuel; and many nieces and nephews.

Those closest to him will remember him fondly. A celebration of life will be held at a later date on Cape Cod.
