Listen to Obituary

Christine Elizabeth Heuser, born June 30, 1941, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to Robert and Elizabeth Delf, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Bellingham, Washington, surrounded by her loving family.

Raised in a Navy family, Christine spent her childhood in California and Guam, learning early how to adapt to frequent moves and new cultures. She later met a dashing Navy man at a Catholic singles dance and married him three months later. Harold Duane Heuser became her partner for more than sixty years, and together they raised four amazing, funny, undeniably good-looking, and humble children.

Christine loved an audience, whether large or small. She sang, danced, told unforgettable stories, and sang lullabies that linger in her children’s memories decades later. One of her happiest memories was performing in Fiddler on the Roof at the Bellingham Theatre Guild. When asked about her favorite adventures, she would often reminisce about living in Spain and trips she took to England and the UAE.

A devoted member of the Catholic Church and an insatiable reader, Christine had an answer for everything. Long before the internet, she was “Google,” only faster, more opinionated, and significantly harder to fact-check.

Her many interests included leading Bible study, restoring and collecting dolls, reading anything and everything, and educating women about childbirth. She was, in every sense, a lifelong teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Delf Jr.

Christine is survived by her beloved husband Duane; her children Mary (Mattias), Paula (Kepler), David (Jill), and Deborah (Beau); and her cherished grandchildren Avery, Connor, and Ella Heuser, Sophia Hyll, and Sean Blakesley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption (2116 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham, WA), with a reception following (location is to be determined, check back for further information). Christine will be laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park during a private graveside committal.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests winning lottery tickets. Christine would expect nothing less.

According to Christine’s wishes, feel free to wear colorful clothing for the funeral.
