Ashlyn Raine (Stroud) Abbott

September 8, 2003 — December 2, 2023

Ashlyn Raine (Stroud) Abbott was born in the early morning hours of September 8, 2003 to Jacob and Amy in Mount Vernon, WA. Ashlyn was the firstborn child, gifted with intelligence and a sweet disposition. She exuded love and kindness from birth and that goodness grew as she did.  The Stroud family welcomed Ashlyn’s siblings, Olivia in 2006 and Brody in 2009. Ashlyn took her role as a big sister very seriously. The bond with her siblings continued through childhood and only grew stronger, to the point that she was truly one of their best friends and mentors. Ashlyn was their consummate supporter and loudest cheerleader in their extracurricular events. Ashlyn and her dad enjoyed being adventure cohorts and workout enthusiasts. They constantly shared workout plans, memes, and videos that only appealed to their twisted sense of humor. Ashlyn and her mom shared a deep, special connection. They would share all things from triaging Ashlyn’s cooking ideas to discussing books and were often seen together taking trips, running errands, or playing games. Deep relationships, quality time, and physical touch were Ashlyn’s forms of love that she openly shared. These are the greatest gifts she left for those she loved.

Softball was an important pastime for Ashlyn that she began at the age of eight and was a sport she excelled in through high school. She was a talented player and often mentored young catchers. She was fortunate to have played with five different travel softball organizations during her journey. Softball provided her the opportunity to travel the country as well as create lifelong relationships with teammates and coaches. Ashlyn was honored by Mount Vernon High School Athletics for her outstanding contribution to the fastpitch program and has her photo displayed in the gym wall of honor.  Ashlyn was a proud 2021 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, earning top honors, including National Honor Society and Bulldog Scholar. She committed to Shoreline Community College to play softball and completed her Associate’s in Pre-Nursing this year. In the past few years, Ashlyn transitioned from softball competitor to long-distance runner competing in half marathons and training to compete in her first full marathon. Running was a daily part of her life.

Ashlyn was a motivated employee and held different positions through her teen years and into adulthood. In September of 2021, she accepted a position at Skagit Regional Health working at Skagit Valley Hospital in Patient Access and recently transitioned to Case Management to align with her continued educational goals in Human Services. People were Ashlyn’s passion and she wanted to use her empathy to help others.

Ashlyn married her best friend, Weston Abbott, on the beautiful fall evening of September 30, 2023. They had met in childhood through parent parties and forced family fun nights. As Weston and Ashlyn got older, their friendship turned into a relationship. In June of 2022, Weston and Ashlyn made their home in Arlington and welcomed their fur baby Moose. On August 12th, 2022, Weston asked for Ashlyn’s hand in marriage with their immediate family present. Their love is a true fairytale. Weston knew he'd marry her years before he asked, and she was so proud to be his wife. She was a beautiful bride at a perfect ceremony that she had meticulously planned and executed with her penchant for details and organization. Ashlyn and Weston spent their quality time at home cooking or cleaning as that was their way of bonding and spending time together, but nothing beats when she would walk in from work and give him the biggest hug whether her day was good or bad. Every interaction they had was filled with humor and laughter. They always took care of each other and loved unconditionally. The pair always motivated one another to be better, each taking on additional education and as Ashlyn would say to eventually “get their big kid jobs”. Weston and Ashlyn were the embodiment of being each other’s biggest fans.

Ashlyn Raine was well loved and loved well. She was the sunshine on our rainiest days and now the brightest star shining on us. Some souls are just too beautiful for this world. She passed away in the loving arms of her husband, parents, and siblings on December 2, 2023 at Harborview Medical Center after a tragic car accident.

Ashlyn is survived by her husband, Weston Abbott, father Jacob Stroud, mother Amy Stroud (Sears), sister Olivia Stroud, brother Brody Stroud, paternal grandfather Matthew Stroud, maternal grandmother Jan Sears (Otis), paternal great-grandmother Agnes Kopp, father-in-law Greg Abbott, mother-in-law Angel Abbott (Taylor), brother-in-law Bryce Abbott, sister-in-law Zoe Abbott, along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
