Irene A. Scott died peacefully on January 27 at 4:07PST, in Bellingham, Washington, surrounded by her family. She died as she had lived, with humor, grace and dignity.

Irene was first and foremost a wife and mother. She was married to Major William M. Scott for forty-nine years before his death in 1999. Together they traveled the world while serving their country, living in Seattle, Virginia, Alaska, California, Pakistan, and Enid, Oklahoma, where they settled to raise their children. She treated each military assignment as an adventure, whether learning to belly dance in Pakistan, traveling to national forests to camp or holding bridge club in her home. She was an avid volunteer in every community that she lived in. In essence, she was a true free spirit.

Irene will be remembered by many for her culinary skills, especially her Norwegian desserts and cinnamon rolls. She was a talented designer and seamstress. Her home was always filled with children, friends and laughter.

She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Enid, Oklahoma for over thirty-five years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and Bible study and worked in the nursery.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her brother Allen. Irene is survived by her five children, Steve Scott and his wife Cindy of Bellingham, Mari Scott of Bellingham, Sue Scott Stanley and her husband Michael C. of New York, Carrianna Scott of Maui, and William Scott and his wife Susan of Ferndale. She has ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother and numerous nieces and nephews. Her love was felt by each and every one of them and she will be greatly missed.

Through her death, we are reminded of the zest with which she lived life. She gave her children many gifts, the greatest of which is was the belief, “you can do anything you want in this life,” and that’s what we did. A graveside service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Wed., February 1 at 1:15 PM
